A lake swimming and sauna evening

Check sauna facilities and local swimming conditions before planning a lakeside evening.

A lakeside sauna can make a memorable evening, but a sauna booking and a safe swimming place are separate things. Check both before planning a swim.

Confirm the facilities

Ask the venue about bookings, dress code, towels, changing areas and access to the water. Check whether the swimming area is maintained or supervised.

Make swimming optional

You can enjoy the sauna and rest outside without going into the lake. If you choose to swim, check local water-quality notices, weather and access. Do not dive into unfamiliar water or assume that a pier is an inspected swimming place.

Bring what you need

Pack a towel, the swimwear required by the venue, drinking water, a bag for wet items and warm clothing for afterwards. Keep the return journey simple.

Planning help: MyHelsinki’s sauna etiquette. Use the swimming location’s own current safety and water-quality information before entering the water.
