A first Finnish sauna visit should be comfortable and unhurried. There is no need to stay in the heat for a set time or copy what other visitors do.

Check the venue’s rules

Public saunas differ in their booking systems, dress codes and arrangements for mixed or separate sessions. Confirm what applies to your booking and whether towels or seat covers are provided.

Respect other visitors

Shower before entering, use a seat cover where required and leave phones outside the sauna. Ask before adding water to the stones. Take a break whenever you want.

Cooling down is your choice

You can rest outside the hot room without swimming. A cold-water dip is optional and needs its own safety assessment; do not treat it as a required part of a sauna visit.
