Begin a housing search with your monthly budget, preferred area and transport needs. Compare the total cost and conditions of each home rather than the advertised rent alone.

Read the listing carefully

Check whether the home is furnished, what the rent includes, which charges are separate, the tenancy period and any deposit. Ask the landlord about anything unclear before committing.

Prepare for applications

Landlords and housing providers have their own application processes. Ask which documents they need. Students can also check the housing services recommended by their institution.

Understand the agreement

Read the rental agreement and the instructions for keys, moving in and reporting existing damage. Keep copies of the agreement and payment records.
