Moving to Finland involves several separate steps. The right order depends on your nationality, reason for moving and circumstances.

Start with your right to live in Finland

Check the residence-permit or registration route that applies to you before travelling. An address registration, a personal identity code and a residence permit are different matters; completing one does not automatically complete the others.

Prepare everyday arrangements

Make a list for housing, address registration, identification, banking, insurance and a telephone connection. Ask each organisation what documents it requires and allow time for appointments. Keep copies of applications and decisions.

Use the local services

Your municipality’s website and local library can help you find information about the area. For the national starting point, use InfoFinland’s moving checklist and everyday-life guide. Eligibility for services and benefits must be checked separately.
